Happy Friday the 13th

If you’re superstitious, Friday the 13th is the most unlucky day of the year. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Have you ever stopped to realise what a great promotional opportunity this could be?

In a former life, as an ecommerce manager for a menswear store, I ran a promotion on Friday the 13th. It was a complete punt. But it went off like a frog in a sock!

The promotion went along the lines of… ‘It’s Friday the 13th – lucky for you!‘ We offered 13% off for 13 hours (from 7am to 8pm). 

It went so well, we marked every Friday the 13th in the calender going forward and ran a similar promotion each time. It was often the biggest single day of revenue for the year.

I cannot guarantee similar results and I’m not suggesting you run the exact same promotion. But I would suggest trying something. Your customers won’t expect it, so you will have the element of surprise.

Here are a few other ideas to get the creative juices flowing:

  • Today only – $13 OFF for every $X spent
  • X% OFF our 13 most popular products – today only
  • X% OFF to our first 13 customers – today only
  • ALL orders placed today will receive a coupon code for 13% OFF your next purchase (this way, you get two bites of the cherry).

Whatever you come up with, make sure it has a strict time limit. Be creative and have Happy Friday the 13th!
